Annie's Little Kitchen (Miri)

Annie is a nice lady who runs a very family kind of eatery with a good selection of menu.

If you do not want to spend an exorbitant amount you can have a quiet lunch or dinner here. At time you can even ask Annie to cater for a small party for you in the evenings and she can give you a delighteful spread.

Recently a Kuching friend came to Miri for a short holiday and we had a good simple lunch . What surprised us....was the luck we had. Annie was giving a demonstration on her new Smart Machine...

Cheerful Annie and happy customer.

Our excellent lamb curry.

Butter prawn rice with nice cabbage.

Deliciou laksa...with Annie's own laksa paste.

Free tasting of Annie's pumpkin soup.

Special serving of Annie's vanilla icecream.

Hi CY,

I am no good a cook compared to your Annie in Miri,But I have an easy recipe for a dip you may like to use especially when you are in a hurry.

Just stir one heaped tablespoon of curry powder to a small bowl of plain mayonnaise. Great with vege sticks or corn chips.

At work, we have munchies on Fridays, and once a term, we have to take something for morning tea. It was a welcomed dip.

For a home made NZ mayonnaise,

You use ANG GI GU NI, it was very popular when I was in Singapore when I had lots of dinner parties and pot luck meals. I don't make them much now, because this daughter here is allergic to eggs, and the men in the house don't eat them.

Even my old aunties from Sibu also like my salads.

Miri has quite a bit to offer from hawker food to fine dining. You can have a full stomach so to speak and you can also enjoy a pleasurable gourmet dinner with good wine etc.

Kuching of course has its outlets and exceptionally good food if you have people to take you around (mixed with difficult parking situation).

I hope Miri will slowly improve and attract more tourists...and develop some signature dishes we can proudly say "Miri Pasta" or "Miri Duck". Now we have Kuching Laksa and Kuching Beef Noodles.

Dear Ann
Thanks for the dip. As I no long work every day I do miss the exchanges of recipes and home made take to work food. We call them goodies from home. some of my former colleagues were really good cooks. Because I worked mainly with Muslims for the last 30 years we normally would eat in halal restaurants for school functions. So whenever I have a chance I would really love to taste Hakka food or Cantonese food. But fish would really be my favourite. I love tapah in particular.

Salads are very nice and I should really eat a lot of it. Will make your dip! I love AJGN. ..our version is very watery now.

Thanks for visiting. Peter Lau's mum passed away on Monday morning. Funeral is on Friday. She lived to an old ripe age of 94 (+)

Didn't realise Peter Lau's Mum is so old. Am I confusing with some one else? Lau Pong Kwong?

Dolly lau and Peter, are they siblings? If my dad was alive, he won't be 90,

You can make lots of salad with the AJGN mayonnaise for your church functions, esp the pasta ones. Easy to make and you can have heaps.

Some recipe don't have AJGN, works the same.

Peter's mum was 94Mr. Hii Wen Hui was 83.

Peter and Dolly are siblings. Datuk William Lau is slightly older than Peter.

Have you met up with Dolly recently?

Many ladies in Sibu use salad cream and peanut butter.

I now often use honey and lime juice. Guong Tong would top the chillies and thinly sliced onions. Some olive oil would be nice. Sesame oil is a little too strong.

But my mum would not eat anything with olive oil.

Ann, Chen Jie Xue 陈洁雪 said...

Tell your mum to use any kind of oil if she doesn't like olive oil. Even cheaper.

I have not seen Dolly since I left school. The only Methodist people I have seen is your sis and Toh Sing, last year at my cousin Leonard Kong's wedding. I went up to greet them. They were very surprised. What made me happier was your sis remembers me by my KIT SUET name.

I have not see Peter too, since that "hard Luck" when I was in form one.

Peter's Dad, is he still around?

Tell your Sibu ladies, instead of using expensive salad cream make their own mayo. I guess the peanut butter makes it taste like satay sauce. Alas, I can't eat peanuts, I am allergic to it.

Thanks Ann

My mum likes Sesame oil and peanut oil....

Dolly remains humble and sweet as always...

It is a pity you cannot eat peanuts...but then there are so many other choices today. I have to remember you and another good friend who cannot eat peanuts at all times...

Peter's dad is still around at 96 years of age...He might live up to 100!!
