He has contributed much to the development of Sibu

A lot of nice words once a person died.
The people of Sibu are always nice and kind to their leaders.

Why did I say that? We cried and said that Sibu is lacking behind development. Once LHC died, we praised that he contributed and developed Sibu?

Yes it is true ...a lot of nice words for the demise - this is the traditional style of Confucians.

I agree to a certain extent with what you say...People of Sibu are nice to their leaders.

Dear Anonymous ...

That is up to the people of Sibu to say/criticize/praise etc....It is their right of speech.

For a deceased, the game is over. That is why we have a funeral and wake, to make amends/peace and wish the deceased well as he has moved on to another realm.
Any way Mr Anonymous, that is the best way I can think of to explain myself :)

When a person has passed away the general public is forgiving..especially if he was rich and powerful.
Some times one or two guys have been helped by the YBx for example and they say a lot of good things..and newspapers do their work well.
Who can really say bad things to the media?

Game over is the usual term for people who leave this world. But some leave behind great deeds. Others may have turned a few turfs here and there...perhaps some things /events do not end just like this. Tak habis cerita di situ...belum tahu.

Well said....funeral and wake help the deceased to go to the other world gently...
The living has to give him a good farewell...it is indeed part of the grief cycle.

People who attend a funera;? Several types a) the grateful b) the close relatives c) the comrades d) the kindred spirits....and e) childhood friends...f) business associates...

But it really depends on how close the departed was with the living...and how influential he/she was.

Huge political funeral like this would also attract a lot of constituents who "owe" him something.

But for LHC - he was the first Foochow Federal Deputy Minister to die in office. Very grand. He left in a glamorous way.

The living will continue what he had done...and that would be good for the whole community.

We will see who succeeds him....

Dear Sarawakiana
I find Chinese funerals pragmatic in many ways. The politically motivated groups would take the opportunity to show up and press their concerns forward -- to their credit. Loss of a dear friend? or loss of a political advantage?
the financially motivated groups would capitalise on their connection and take advantage of course of the situation.
Other support groups would likewise help themselves.
Condolences to those who really mourn and those who suffer the greatest heartbreak.

Call me Mr. Tongue-in-cheek

He is the bro of Lau Hui Siong? The youngest one? The uncle of my form mate Stephen Lau?

Hello
Mr. Tongue in cheek
Thanks for visiting. Politicians have calculated moves. Some are predictable. Some are not. I believe condolences for the real mourners are appropriate any time. Death is heartbreaking to those who love - I know.

LHC had nephews who are Steven Lau and Henry Lau (sons of Lau Hui Kang) and I think they all went to Sacred Heart...
Which stephen lau is this?
Lau Hui Siong has sons (Philip and Edward )These Laus remain very powerful timber business dynasty.

CY,

Steven/Stephen Lik Kiong ,like Charles Tiong was my form mate. He was very involved with our class reunions.

When Miss Fries was in Singapore with me in 1999, Hua Chuan rang, we (Miss Fries and I) were surprised that he knew Miss Fries was in my house.

Then Hua Chuan told us that he was the BIL of Stephen, and Rose/Rosalind and Hua Chuan took us to a Japanese restaurant on top of Jurong hill. Miss Fries wanted me to tag along as she couldn't remember the late Hua Chuan very well.

At the makan, we realise it was Stephen who told Hua Chuan that Miss F was in Singapore.

Dear Ann
This is indeed a small world...the late Hua Chuan was a man with a heart of gold and so is his wife Jenny. I think the Lau family siblings are all very well brought up by the late Datuk.

Hua Chuan and his wife gave me and my friend (we were on our to China) a very exotic lunch...you know the type which make one's eyes drop out! Miri does not have wolfberry leaves fried with special sauce in the restaurant yet...I still remember that special dish.
