My Sibu is hot!

Who will you vote? A man wearing a coat? A tall man from a timber tycoon family? A man from Sg. Bidut? Sibu is lucky to have a choice....

Dear brothers and sisters of/from Sibu - Today's posting is a collage of news points and photos from various Sibu blogs....I am glad our Sibu people can stand up to take photos with any of the political personalities coming to Sibu for this special visit...this is history in the making!!

Special thanks to all my blogger friends from Sibu....Sarawakiana says BRAVO for your fair and independent reportage.....

Read on.......

This is one of the most interesting parts of Sibu history: a by-election due to the passing of a 5 term Member of Parliament (Datuk Lau Hui Chiew). The campaign time is short and the voting day will fall on Sunday (i.e.tomorrow).Apparently billions of ringgits are floating in the community. Promises by the BN government as usual are more than ever.

Road maintenance work continues along Brooke Drive. The Airport is jammed and it is really hot(as in temperature) there.

Teachers were called out of their classes and students given work to do to meet the Education Minister in Sacred Heart School Hall a few days ago. They had to sign their names for attendance. Promises of promotion!!

Minister of Culture (etc) visited all the associations for better understanding of Sibu culture.

Sibu has never seen such a hot by-election before. Hence its significance and its uniqueness.

Every day for the first time in the last ten days Sibu has been in the NATIONAL news (both traditional and alternative - recent terms again).

Some of the catchy phrases : Vote for DAP - Vote for Change; Vote for BN - Have Pity; Vote for DAP - a new Parliamentary Road to Integrity and Democracy; Vote for BN - Stability etc...

Posters - as usual - some good and some crooked. Some even ridicule the intelligence of the voters.

Voters - I think we all have to prove that we are mature and intelligent.

New terminology / catch phrases surfacing : Buy election (not by election). Kampua campaign. The Mulans of Sibu please stand up!!

Some old and recycled phrases : the moon represent my heart...marriage of convenience...what can the opposition do?

DSAnnuar Ibrahim was my UMSU (University Malaya Student Union) President when I was as freshman. He was already a fiery speaker in those days.
PM Najib - feels the pressure - Mr. Cool from Miri (DCM of SArarak)   (Steve Ling)

Lim Guan Eng of Penang with Yong Sun of Sibu.

Tony Hii of Sibu with YB Datuk Mukriz (a famous son of a famous father)

YB Ngae Koh Ham (Sitiawan Foochow) with writer Yong Sun

Lim Kit Siang...a man who dedicated his whole life to the Opposition...and still going on strong...........
