Many of the shops are fully decorated with trimmings ahead of Mother's Day (a day dedicated to Mothers of this world by the hard work of one American lady). It is true that many people remember their mothers and pay respects to those who have gone ahead in many different ways Mother's Day is today taken as a commercialised celebation of a social icon : mother.
Even though many think that a mother should be remembered by a huge dinner by great family I will always remember the small boy who presented his mother a small token of a chipped bangle smeared with dirty finger marks given with a special heart is still a grand gesture. I would remember the little boy who brought a tired flower from the school's bouquet (for mother's day) for his own mother . He has asked permission from his class teacher to have just one rose for his mother at home. And the teacher said why not?
While many shops offer gifts for mothers I wonder how many mothers would be forgotten by their children not only on this one special day in the year but many days in the year.
My friend Ann Chin helped me remember this song "There is only mother who is good in this world".....and here it is for you my readers.....sing along...
And the poem below is for all to share whether you are a mother or not....you are born of a mother...
Her love is like
an island in life's ocean,
vast and wide
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the wind, the rain, the tide.
'Tis bound on the north by Hope,
By Patience on the West,
By tender Counsel on the South
And on the East by Rest.
Above it like a beacon light
Shine Faith, and Truth, and Prayer;
And thro' the changing scenes of life
I find a haven there.
To all mothers - Happy Mother's Day.
And May God bless all who make Mothers happy and worthy.
