Foochow Association Brass Band

It is quite common for the local associations to form their own musical groups . Brass bands for example are expensive to set up but Miri Foochow Association has this band for quite a number of years.

It used to be all men performing in the brass band. There are several functions for the brass band : to play for celebrations organised by the Association;weddings; and funerals. Sometimes they perform for state functions too. So it is nice to see this lady beating the drum for the brass band. Kudos to her and her great spirits!

Xylophone ...

Here's a man blowing his lungs out...and enjoying his own trombone music...the 100 000 people around him at the World Foochow Banquet at East Wood recently only fanned his enthusiasm.

This saxophone player is not wearing his brass band uniform...he has come to play after he has been circulating around...his batik shirt indicates that he is a member of the organising committee. When you have to chose your attire which one would you choose if you were him?

I like the man playing the trumpet standing nearest to the camera....he must be tired standing all night long...hoped he had enjoyed some of the sumptious dinner spread out by the World Foochow Congress.

And their favourite tune? Rose Rose I love you.....or may be one of those happy cha cha number...I lost count because of the noise and the busyness.

Hi Sarawakania, I really love the last pic of that man playing his trumpet leaning against the side. Thats classic shot! Ha ha.
And love the other pics too.
And I'm sure they played beautiful oldies songs....and I have always loved that song, 'Rose, Rose I love you'.

First heard that song when I was 6 years old, and still love hearing it today.
Your background on the peoples of where you come from is really educational.....and its only thru blogs like yours that I learn of a World I never knew.
Great posting Sarakwania.
You have a pleasant weekend, best regards, Lee.
