More Tapah and More Tioman for lunch at Simpang Tayan

On the fifth day 08/12/2010 we were almost near Pontianak. We arrived at Simpang Tayan which marks the beginning of any journey from the interior to the big city. The simpang or cross road is newly developed and like any cross road town in Asia little eating stalls have sprung up and competing with each other for customers. Those shops will bigger parking spaces got their till running faster.

As we got nearer to Pontianak our food changed from organic and bamboo cooked food to more spicy and curried types of food. Vegetables became more oily as we had stir fried imported vegetables like cauliflower and french beans.

I continue to eat more of tapah and tioman which were indeed delectable. An additional joy is being introduced to Ikan Lias (pronounced lies) which is a very tasty fish. I also found out that some men prefer meaty fish while others prefer small fish which are very bony and crunch...I wonder if that is related to their other preferences in life....

They must have good customers to have so much for sale.

The photos you see are for 75 of us....the organising committee had booked the caterers to prepare for our arrival. Nice food all the way . They have done a good job and we really got more than our money's worth.

Fish like tapah and tioman are very cheap here.

Ikan lias is a very tasty river fish...plentiful in Indonesia. You can buy the dried fish in Serikin. Nice photos and postings on Kalbar.
