A Mentally Disturbed Man in Marudi

Leviticus 19:
9. And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.
10. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.

This man was watching our breakfast group in Marudi. We had just sung "Happy Birthday" happily to one of our friends and he had blown his birthday candles. We were happy in our group for him and his wife.

that was when I noticed this man wearing sun glasses watching us. And he kept watching us. He had no food on his table.

As we ate our breakfast of several different dishes of Marudi's noodles and kueh tiaw (very famous) I noticed that he was still eyeing us. And he never once took off his sunglasses.

Finally when he knew we were about to leave he came over to our table and asked for the noodles left on the plates.

We gave him this....

He ate the noodles....

Every one in Marudi knows him...and he knows we are not from Marudi.

What is his world like? Living in a world of Mental Illness?

We cannot "see" what goes on in his mind...

Did I tell you about my grandma's grinding stone?

You did something good for the day. The man keeps looking for food tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

Hi Ann....
I remember you mention it when I wrote about my grandma's. Did you have a posting about it?

Will read your article.

Dear Anonymous..I know ...we helped the man for one day only...but he will always be at the central market and elswhere to beg for his food. I was told his family cannot do anything so they just let him be. It is sad isn't it. He must be
"shocked" by something.

Sarikei had a similar guy. After his parents passed away, he hanged around kopitiams and waited for people to finish eating and then ate the leftover. He had passed away.

Dear Daniel...this is really sad!! I think some people just cannot cope with losses etc...

I am glad that day we dished out our share of food from serving plates and that we did not order anything individually. In fact my friends were all so shocked that he could ask for the noodles that we did not finish..God must have a purpose for him too.

I think he is not lazy to work, but likely no one wanted to hire him. Imagine if we are in that situation, we need to beg for food.

For everything under heaven, there is a reason....

Dear Anonymous..Mental Health situations are getting worse every day...I cannot imagine myself begging for food in the central market.

Dear Anonymous..yest..for everything God has a purpose.
