"Women hold up half the sky in China." Mao Tze Dong

Demographically the 21st Century China is changing dramatically beyond even the expectations of liberal  economists and demographers due to her unforeseen rapid development.

Millions of Chinese are moving from one place to another (now more freely than ever before) to seek a better living ; whether it is from the rural areas to the big cities or from the north to the south; or from west to east. People are moving around!! Especially now that modern transportation has been made available.

In the small "village" I was in August I met many who have come from the far north like  the Hubei region and the northern zones in Yunnan. Most of them are women who have left behind their parental homes and ex husbands (many brought their children) to seek a better life.

And indeed they form associations with their "sisters" and seek work. Here is one pair who have found new work in this construction site. Houses and shop houses are being built rapidly in this area. So men women and even horses have plenty of work to do.

They are tough ladies who do men's work.
Two ladies are scooping sand into a wheel barrow.
This lady is fixing the ropes of the pulley onto the wheel barrow.
A small old fashioned pulley system help to pull up the whole wheel barrow of sand to the fifth floor!!
While equipment may be very modern they are not really observing safety first. But then they have no choice but to earn enough to send home and enough to help them buy an apartment (if possible within the next ten years)!!"

These women are ambitious and are fighting for their own well being!! Jia Yiu!!

China has been hurtled into the 21st Century because of one man's ideology which inspired billions of Chinese minds. But equally important it was both men and women who caught on the need to change China from a dynastic feudal system to a workable "people system". Perhaps future historians will write about this revolution as a man made political miracle.

Strangely after reading this post all I could feel was the strength of Mrs BB with me these past 8 months when everything seemed so bleak, she always seemed stronger than ever keeping the roof up from falling down upon us. :)

Dear Anonymous...I think as a nation China has been having very good luck in having good leaders like Wen Jia Bao and Hu Jin Tao..may the next few leaders do the same... I admire Hu and Wen especially when they roll up their sleeves and start changkul-ing in some events...
