floods are a constant threat to the lives of the farmers and rubber tappers. Hence they have to find ways to overcome these.
With the rising of the river bed of the Rajang Foochow farmers have devised vegetable beds to rise high above the flood waters. Some even create a double decker vegetable bed.
Here my relative Wong Hieng Kiu has planted his vegetables in raised boxes which are really similar to school hostel beds....single deck or double deck. How creative one can be when faced with environmental challenges.

Not many people elsewhere do this..but in the Rajang area..lots of farmers cultivate their vegetables..in spite of the presence of floods. They often manage to be subsistence farmers and do not depend on supermarkets.
