Kang Kong Flower

The beautiful, pure white kang kong flower will greet you happily when you go for a walk in the morning.

the white Kang Kong flower would always remind me of the good days we had when our aunts stayed with us.

Mum was the good eldest sister in law who welcomed her sisters in law to live with her. Aunty Carrie stayed the longest with us as she went to St. Elizabeth's for her secondary school. When she left for Hong Kong, mum felt a great loss.

Aunt Pick stayed with us when she was teaching in the Methodist Secondary School. She left to marry Dr.Fan and moved to Kuching.

I would always remember how we would walk from Kung Ping Road to the Methodist Primary School on week days and our aunt, Aunt Pick who taught in the secondary school along Queensway, would walk with us on Sundays. It was always a beautiful sunday morning walk, going towards the Hoover House, for our English Sunday School. She would point out to the plants and admire the flowers. She was a very serious Sunday School teacher and so were the others. Aunt Pick and Mrs.Coole were strict and we behaved well.

Perhaps it was the Sunday School teachers who really gave us a good grounding of spoken English.

My siblings and I are always grateful for our early Christian education in English.

One of our favourite hymns was "Tell me the Stories of Jesus".

Did our love for nature come from our Sunday morning walks?
