But it is usually a soup made for a daughter by a loving mother when her first menstruation appears. This soup will ensure that her young womb would be warmed up and that she would not have any menstrual pains.
My grandmother often made this soup for us girls, especially when we came to visit her with a tray of eggs and some fresh liver. From the early days a tray of eggs would be 30 in number and this was the number of eggs my Foochows would bring as gifts for their elders. My mother never failed to make us bring some liver and eggs (and also soh Mien) for my maternal grandma.
According to my Fujian born grandma (ngie mah) daily consumption of eggs was good for longevity. Indeed she lived over 86 years...She died in 1985. We still miss her.
Every now and then Foochow women , and I too, would make a bowl of this soup for themselves if and when they have some "wind" or some pains relating to the womb.
