PC Lim's photo.
This photo is very interesting to most people from Sibu and Sarawak in general...What do you think? One of our veteran photographers the late Soon Lee Guan also took a shot at this particular event!!

Wow! 51years ago! My age!
This proves that Sibu-ians cried, shout and died all these years with no solution to the flood. Pitty!
CY,
Have we got "YUEN" of what, you visit Toowomba of all places. This city was the city my late mother visited when she met her accident which took her life..
Flooding in Sibu, something as a child I loved. Our houses were flooded up to our thighs
heheheh, during the war , my father went up from Sibu to During in a boat to claim my mum as his bride. I imagine it was a smaller boat, only my Uncle Kok Fei went with him.
Mum wore a white gown borrowed from Mrs. Chew Chiong Tack. Also, it was the war, and there were no photos. So looking at your photo gave me fuzzy feelings.
Can I borrow it to post a story of my parents' wedding?
Ann,was tht uncle of urs with surname Chan? Was he a school teacher in Sacred Heart and a very keen fisherman as well?
Is tht Mrs Chew Chiong Tack tht runs a chinese medical store close to the Palace ?
Wht a small world indeed ....
Ann,

Anonymous,
Sorry I was in a hurry this morning. Are you a sacred heart old boy.
My Uncle Kok Fei was SHS sports master. Even though he taught primary school, the boys knew him because he was very enthusiastic about SHS sports.
yes, he was an avid fisherman. Do you know him very well.
He was known as Master Kok Fei, but after he retired, he used his Baptism name John, which complicated things, My dad John Chan Hiu fei was always known as John.
When were you in SHS? You know his sons?
If you are younger than me, u6 1973, you would know Margaret Chan, my sister.
Sibu is very small, almost everyone know someone in the family.
Sarawakiana's Dad was my Dad's friend.
I am not aware if Philip Chan, but then, I knew many of my cousins as Ah ____ Ko.
We the Chans grew very big, and there were not many SAN BA Cantonese.
Or you may know my younger Brother Joseph Chan.
Ann,i do know Master Chan Kok Fei very well cos he was my class teacher in primary school..he used to live in the boarding school as well b4 moving to Lanang road in Kong Hu pa.
I was a very old scholar in SHS......finishing my Senior Cambridge in 1964...all those Chans then were after my time...our school was then still in Mission Road.
indeed it was such a small world with all the modern technologies to keep in touch...
really nice to know some one knowing each other.........six degrees of separations.
Hope u have a nice Mother`s Day Ann
Hi Sarawakiana,
Just to wish you a happy mother's day.
Keep well. Best regards.
Lee.

Hi CY,
I am not only stealing your photos, I am shamelessly stealing your reader.
Anonymous,
That is one photo when my Uncle Kok Fei came to NZ.
Can you come over to my blog, . You can send me an email.
Dear Peter...thanks for dropping by. Yes....all these years we have been living with floods...and we have even had nightmares about floods. Seriously my own grandmother built one house by the banks of the river which was swept away by the express waves. Later another was built which lasted about 15 years...again swept away...the river Rajang just became wider and wider...and the flood higher and higher...
Ann...Toowomba is where one of my best friends come from. She has married a Bidayuh guy (my husband's school mate who studied in Twb) and came to Sarawak in 1972. Has been here since. She has two sons now living in Australia and a daughter in Perth. She is still teaching in Miri. We had a great time. I am getting myself invited to visit again...
I was in Ipswich where your mum died...and I will put up some photos for you if it is alright.
About the Yuen...Ann...it is indeed eerie how we can travel in these kinds of circles...and when I visit Auckland soon we have lots to swap...
I loved to wade in the water in Sibu...and never mind the sewerage!! I believe I did not see any...hahahahah
Ann....by all means take this famous photo...one day if I have a shop I would use this photo too.....
Ann...Chiew Chiong TAck...I think I have a story about the family.....wait till I get photos.
Ah Ngao....I don't think Sin Nio Lau Jiuo...more like Sin Neo lau bak jek....crying in the rain....
Uncle Lee...thanks for the nice greetings for Mother's Day...hope you have given your good partner a nice celebration too....thanks.
Anonymous...and Ann...feel free to have exchanges here...make my blog more interesting...and now it is helping people to connect. That's wonderful isn't it?
CY,
My two bro still freaks out about Ipswich. I am ok. I have moved on.
Mum is buried in the South Port cemetery.
Chiew Chiong Tuck was a long time SHS Old boy treasurer. My Dad was secretary. Can't rememeber who was Prseidnet.
Those old boys, they really were good friends.
I used to help my dad staple the minutes of the meetings.
Anon,
whose's son are u. in Sibu at that time, everyone knew some one in the family thanks to SEE HUA Daily news.
You haven't know me who Philip Chan is. Did he teach in MSS when I was in form 6 in early 1970s?
anon,
Kok fei's son died prematurely about 7 years ago, he was an ambulance driver.
Ann...one day I will visit south port. My friend may oneday marry someone day...if the wedding takes place soon... It is about one hour drive from Brisbane. Where is Charles? I did not get to meet my relatives living in Brisbane. Sad about that. I know how it feels about a parent's passing...I still feel sad about my dad's passing. Very painful.
Ann
Philip Chan is dad to Linda Chan and husband to Chiew San Kee (both are teachers). Philip went on to be principal of St. E at one time. He went to uni with me in KL. His brother is Dr. Benildus Chan Toh Han having a very good clinic in Miri. Nice big family.
