Most people would prefer to hit Jakar in the morning before noon!! And for only one reason - the Prawn Noodles!!

This is Mr. Benson a retired Headmaster from Miri who is enjoying his noodles.
A very exceptional characteristic of Sarawakians is that all of them try their very best to use the chopsticks and enjoy the food or culinary art of other races.
Being able to enjoy each other's food or sharing of food is such a comforting sight in Sarawak.
Many restaurants today depend on the support of all the races. Hence menus do cater for the taste buds of other races.
Service of the waiters and waitresses also have improved over the years. Customer service is just so important to maintain profits and reputation.
And it is good that the chefs and the proprietors can speak the local languages. Indeed the Jakar Chinese towkays all speak excelent Iban and BM..and some even speak Melanau. Linguistic skills often endear the business people to their clients.
And for the noodles...extra heat from the extraaaaa chillies do go a long long way...
A warm reception is always a good sign for good business.

Jakar is the 7th mile town of Sarikei's 6th Division
ever try with the prawn noodle at Seagood seafood restaurant? curious with it...
Ann..when you were young and living in Sarikei and Bintangor Jakar was just one or two shops...with a famous wooden bridge..and we have small boats going to Boler Kerng and Murudu... Daniel has another answer for you!!
Ah Ngao..yes it is high cholesterol..but how often do you pass by Jakar? Once in two or three years or may be less often? hahahaha

I never been to Miri....this is good info. If am happened fly to Miri it is a must to visit Jakar. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Daniel, I never really lived in Sarikei. went down to visit, usu by Express boat.
I agreed that dishes of prawn mee, cha mee, cha beehoon, wonton noodle etc..were pretty yummy. Lucky me my parents live very near Sg. Jakar and we need not go far for them. Unfortunately we are now back in Melbourne but we never miss our breakafast in Sg. Jakar while in Sarikei.

Miss Tina...when you visit Sarawak visit Sibu which is more central and from there you visit Miri and Jakar and SArikei...
I am sure now that you are back in Melbourne you might even imagine a breeze bringing you the fragrance of cha beehoon!!
Beside Jakar Bulat Corner at simpang Bulat Sarikei ia another stop over place for R and R breakfast though not as popular as Jakar.

Yes, bring in the breeze pls! actually cha beehoon was the last breakfast we had in sg jakar before leaving sarikei on 4th feb 2012. my father and his mates usually meet up at sg jakar for morning coffee. lucky them...

Hi now Sg jakar is definately thriving, I too remembered the small boats with a small engine carrying us back and forth home and Jakar where roads were then non-accessible.

Yes..I love to linger on at the river side and watch the boats..and slow pace of life...very serene and calming to the mind..away from the turbulent world.
