Yolkless Heart Shaped Mini Cake from Hot Cross Buns (Miri)

Miri has several bakeries like Hot Cross Buns, Ma Baker,Southern Cake Shope, Hygiene Bakery, Chin Loong Sdn Bhd to name a few.

One of the most popular is the Hot Cross Buns and I must say I got a membership card so that I could get a fair discount for this special yolkless heart shaped mini cake.

The texture of this marvellous mini cake is silky and it is probably more healthy than the normal Dan Gao (egg cake). It is not entirely eggless though. It is very soft and springy...although it does not have all those air holes in most mini sponge cakes...

Perhaps it is one of a kind in the whole of Sarawak. It is my mother's favourite cake.

My mother likes the white and light look of the mini cake...because  it looks so  pure. And we still share the cake as we don't have the habit of eating the whole mini cake on our own......"buong na siak" or share in eating....

Love comes in a small measures...
Love comes in making effort to buy  something good for a special person
Love comes in a simple gesture
love comes in bits and pieces of memories...
love comes when connections are made
love comes when gentleness is shared. (When you eat this cake you feel so much gentleness on your tongue)....
Love comes in a slice of cake which melts in the mouth..

In my family  as we  were growing up we did not eat one apple each...we sliced an apple ..we did not eat a pear each...we sliced the pear...and we did not eat one whole orange by ourselves..we sliced the fruit. We would always ask "has every one eaten a share?" "Have we saved some for ...xxxx?" and we would put away portions of our food in the food save..At the end of the day we went to bed happy that we had a share in everything and life was good. We were mindful of each other's well being.

Mum with the little she had then could always find things to share with her neighbours too. It could be half a pumpkin she grew or some cangkok manis she had from our backyard. One year God bless us with so many gourds that we shared with almost every one along Kong Ping Road!!

In the same way I have brought up my children to share whatever bounty we have on the table..

And I think this is similar to the story of Five Loaves and Two Fishes

Love is sharing a small cake....

Have a small slice of my love in 2012....
Happy First Day of 2012

CY, I made something for you in anticipation of your arrival. Just hope you don't get botulism.

I blogged about the red plums, and I also have 2 green plum trees. As I don't eat the plums, I was trying to be enterprising like my mum, and make pockled plums . Not the fancy Homemade Umeboshi (Japanese salty pickled plums. Just pickled them in sea salt brine.

I supposed by the time you come, they will be ready. Not the dried Snung Boi, but the watery type.

Your teeth better be good. LOL

will blog next week.

Hello! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I'm getting tired of Wordpress because I've had problems with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
