Special Coconut Stand found in Brunei

Look what I found....during the fasting month coconuts are very popular.

I think the welder must be very happy to create a stand like this. Besides the strong wraught iron stand each shelf has a ring on which a coconut would sit nicely. Very unique and I am sure because he is from quite a rural place in Brunei no one has really asked him to make more.

But I must commend him for his innovation. Great job!! A pat on your back!

In Brunei the usual price of cconuts are 2 dollars. The shop keeper would slice open the fruit and you can drink it in the coffee shop.

Most coffee shops like these are operated by a Malay boss and his Indian assistants.

food served is usually economy rice with lots of curried dishes and vegetables cooked in South Indian style. In West Malaysia they would be called Mamak style.

Nasi lemak would be a specialty. Teh tarik is very popular and may be the only favourite and quality drink. Other drinks are just so so.

Sarawakiana,

I understand that there is a special mutant of coconut called makapuno (if I am not mistaken) from the Philipinnes whereby the coconut will not grow old. heard that can get one at Chatuchak market in Bangkok.

Dear Greenspot

This is indeed news. We are crazy about Pandan Coconut from Thailand at the moment. I must say Thailand is very blessed with a King who is really interested in agriculture (He has a huge farm in his palace grounds and he cultivates padi with selected poor young Thai boys and girls every year...what a sincere and true ruler!). My greatest respect for him.

coconuts can stay fresh for many days. That is why it is a good and saleable product in the coffee shops. And when old it can be sold as old coconut or copra. A wonder product.
