Bus in Kota Kinabalu

there are many kinds of buses in Kota Kinabalu.

Sometime ago I was keen on taking the ordinary buses to have a really good look at the roads and how the local people live in KK.

Most local people take this kind of city bus which goes into all the roads in KK. One ringgit per ride.

This is another one.

This is unforgettable - yes we still have ticket collectors.....

Tickets which have been around since the 1950's......Times have not changed in KK...and the local are still blessed by kindly ticket collectors who speak calmly and gently.

Cheers to old timers......

Creative Artificial Garden on the 7th Floor of a Tall Building.

Boutec Hotel is on the 7th floor of a huge building.

To create a green environment it brings a Japanese garden into an enclave of the floor.

good idea...it is fairly new in the hotel industry and is centrally positioned for travellers who are not too fuzzy. The rooms are small and the price is around RM165 at the moment of writing.

You can easily check out at 4 a.m. if you wish to catch the Air Asia morning flight to Taipeh. Your taxi driver will be very punctual but don't forget to get his telephone number.

There are many pleasant taxi drivers in KK. But again be selective. And if luck is with you have a fixed taxi driver if you are frequent traveller. It is good to make friends with a nice KK Airport taxi driver. with a mobile phone it is always so easy.

Sunsets in North Borneo

I have a crazy bad habit of trying to catch a sunset.

Sometimes it is hard because you cannot drive fast enough to a place to watch the sun setting. Sometimes your worn out and heavy legs are not fast enough.

Sometimes you are too far away from the sea to catch the sun setting.

Sometimes you are in the middle of a chore and you cannot have that special moment of the sun.

When you try to catch a good sunset with all good intent and purpose you love the challenge.

The waiting is so special. Like these shots I made.....and whoever is with you must have a great sense of humour and tolerance to let you enjoy your craziness.

Reflections on the sea....

will the boats come into the scene?

How fast will the sun disappear? Two minutes?

Will the colours change?

This spectacular evening was all gold!

We must be thankful to friends who organize trips and include you!

God is great! Be thankful for a beautiful moment. Be thankful for good friends.

Sabahan Traditional Appetisers

This is my choice of appetizers from the main dish. I chose the fish cooked in banana leaves which was very tasty.
The tepus and chilli pickle is excellent and it is something I will always associate Sabah and my Sabahan friends with. It is a good idea to give a bottle to a friend as a souvenir.
There is a small portion of salted fish for which Sabah is famous for. Ikan Kurau (without any bones) is sold at 38 ringgit per kg. Good price indeed.
The sour mango goes well with salted fish.

At a recent Kamatan and GAwai joint celebration I was again very impressed by the appetizers which were placed on the table as a mark of welcome to guests. It is now becoming popular for the celebrants to present a symboloic dish on the table even when the subsequent dishes are from Chinese cuisine.
