Sibu News: Mr and Mrs. Hii Tiong Huat
According to Sibu records there is only one lonely social activist who dare to stand up at street corners with his placards and banners to voice his grievances. He has been reported to work alone without support from any NGO.
Two days ago Hii Tiong Huat who has long been a lonely man in his fight against many issues was brought into the Sibu Police station for questioning.
I grabbed this photo from See Hua Daily News. The caption said" Mrs. Hii asked Hii to think of his family first . What would happen to her and the family if he had to go to prison?"
It seems that social activists' work is frown upon by the majority of the Sibu population which is largely pro-BN according to the media.
What will happen to Hii Tiong Huat?

Hi Sarawakiana,
I guess Mr Hii was just trying to exercise his rights. Sad that our society does not appreciate such type of people who stands up for others.
Hope luck will be on his side.

Hi Greenspot
This is indeed a sad movie like scene when a wife comes to the police station to beg the husband to think about the family. So many of our old Kungfu movies have this kind of scenes. Some even have the grandmother or grandfather coming to kneel before the kungfu hero to ask him to change his mind!!
I suppose we have the ingredients of "All Men are Brothers" here...and let us await the outcome.
Hii is a brave man.
Thanks for sharing this. We don't get See Hua Daily news here.
It is so sad so this hero....Hope the authorities won't be harsh on him as he is just a man who wants to express himself in his own way. Right?

Dear "Student"
thanks for writing. We also hope that all the right things would be done so that Mr. Hii would not be dealt wrongly.
who in Sibu will help him? May be we need Pao Ching Tien's reincarnation.
I think we all need to pray for him. May God bless him and his family.
Hi it is Justin here.
Haven't been around to read all the news...I guess Mr. Hii is very admirable to do things alone. He reminds me of Lone Ranger or Zorro...but of course he does not have a fast car or horse for getting away.
I will pray that he will gain his rights to freedom as a good citizen.
Thanks for the pic...You are not in Sibu now?
Hi Justin.
How are you?
Hope everything's going fine and that the haze is not affecting you and your work.
Thanks for the good wishes for Mr and Mrs. Hii and I am sure they do need this kind of good thoughts. Prayers will definitely help.
Nope I am not in Sibu.
this lone crusade have come a long way.he is fighting for justice(i think..)i believe someway along the line or somewhere along his past life experiences,(or maybe he went through a very traumatized moment) affects his actions presently.nobody actually can "stop" him -not even his wife.he is no doubt, very brave by facing the law enforcer alone.
Ah Ngao I am not sure what is his background but I started noticing his efforts when he was reported in the newspapers for his campaigns against constant flooding in Sibu. I really admire him standing with his small placards in the rising water!!
I am sure many Sibu people would shake their heads and worry ! they won't join him because they need to keep "their rice bowls safe so to speak".
I have read of a very brave and true Foochow Christian who successfully garnered a lot of support for his causes by public campaigns...but it was in another place and at another age. He stood tall and he was on the right side.
Has any one realised that while a person is being investigated under any circumstances he cannot be jailed ?
Just a thought...can't help but comment in your column which I believe is very apolitical. Thanks for the news in English.
Mr. Hii should be known as one of the unsung heroes of Sibu in the future. Bravo to this Foochow!!

thanks for writing. It is true what you said. But I am not sure about the latest proper police procedure in Sibu in particular and Malaysia in general.
I am sure people like to be enlightened with regards arrests and jail terms...do not hesitate to comment on my blog!! You are always welcome.
Even in strict Singapore, there have a soap box that people can speak.
Dear Ann
I really appreciate what Mr. Hii is doing.
Crusaders should be noted by people. They become a great voice (like in the wilderness - crying out)...
I remember the stories of brutalities suffered by the Chinese inprisoned by the Japanese during the WWII.
See when people are in power they can be extreme. Am wondering about their psychology.
Thanks for visiting.
