Brick Kiln in Medamit

Limbang has at least two brickyards in its history.

Bricks have to be made locally. It would be too expensive to bring bricks from Miri, Sibu or Kuching by land or by sea. Unthinkable.

the towkay thinks that it is very hard to get workers to make bricks because the other enterprises are offering very good money. Lorry drivers, bulldozer drivers, timber workers and other jobs have made Limbang Ibans, Bisayas, Lun Bawangs and Chinese very rich.

A local man said, "If the brickyards discontinue may be the rich people can afford tobuy their bricks from Miri, sent by land. But we people may suffer more. We cannot afford to use wood now. In the past we can go to the jungle and cut down our own trees to make our own building materials. Now everything is gone. Many years ago we would never think of buying tiles imported from China.!! Our lives are upside down now."
