Tulai, Bintangor

Tulai was one of the outposts of the Methodist Mission which was started in Sibu. As the Foochows spread to Binatang and Tulai, the church spread too.

The Tulai Church is called Lai Ang Chaurch and the school is called Tong Hua School.

Many missionaries came to serve in this area. In fact it was also very interesting because there were several Cantonese families living in Tulai in the early days too. Rev Hodgkinson who came to serve was very fluent in Cantonese. In fact when he served in Kuching he preached in Cantonese.

Most of the Cantonese who lived in Tulai learned to speak Foochow in the past. Today Tulai's population continue to be mixed.

The old Tulai Church and Tong Hua School

The new school but the photo is a bit blur.
