Blooming Delight

These are beautiful puffs from the Malay Jambu. The tree is pretty but the flowers are even more amazing. When they bloom the whole tree looks wonderful. The flowers look like fireworks. Perhaps some fireworks use them as their design.
Malay kampongs in Sarawak used to have many of these trees but now the Malay Apple seems to have disappeared.

The Malay Apple is a native of Malaysia.

Interesting facts :
Iit was recorded that Captain Bligh (of the Mutiny on the Bounty fame) conveyed small trees of 3 varieties from Timor and Tahiti to Jamaica in 1793.

The flowers are considered sacred to Pele, the fiery volcano goddess of Hawaii.

The tree was growing under glass in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1839, and specimens were fruiting in Bermuda in 1878.
