Flash back 1974.
This cinema was a favourite place for secondary school students to go to. Some students wanted to watch two movies in a day and they would come out with a great headache because of the cigarette smoke. At that time they did not know the term "pollution" very well. Nor did they know about lung cancer. Life was terrific in Limbang - a cinema - some shops and a coffee shop which sold wonderful tou sa buns and peanut butter buns - those were our luxuries as hardworking teachers.
And the main transport for teachers was Honda Motor Bikes. Students walked three miles to catch a movie. And the Principal could literally ride next to them slowly...either to protect them or to threaten them. This was how a caring principal was....Today..students disappear to don't know where...and principals might not care much....after all they are adults until they are in trouble and they will then be punished as naughty naughty children....
Cinemas always bring back a lot of memories to me and I am sure to many other people too. This is actually quite remarkable because the cinema is still there in Limbang after all these years. In other places the cinemas have been converted to other uses.
A good movie then would be the topic of conversation for days.
Bruce Lee was the real hero. Every kid walked like Bruce Lee and they even tried to smile like him. And of course every now and then they bared their tops and showed their skinny chests. I thought that was quite amusing!!
And Jacky Chan and Jet Li were not in the scene yet. There was no Korean Wave...and the TV was still black and white.
The radio was still a very impressive gift and possession.
Those were the days. 1974.

WoW,w0w, wow ! Chang yi,this is really filled with sweet old memory talks ! interesting ! Talking about cinema ,that was our top enjoyment at that time ! Family enjoyment, even good dating place for young lovers !! Besides poluted cigarette smoke, not to forget the disgusting smell of the sweat from the audience sitting beside you+the urine smell on the floor ! Very often you overheard kids telling the story before the show ended ! just imaging that !! Have you even bitten by the bugs ?! hahaha..... I was living opposite 2 theatres then ! Lido and Rex.The very enjoying scenes for me then was watching the squeezing of the crowd for the tickets......!!!

I was think of you in the Girl Guides hut when I was doing this post.
I didn't frequent the cinema often, no pocket money. I remember I was in form 6 when Bruce Lee died, I remember the boys crying. My Ah Kung was sad.

cinemas are my "another world" where i can escape to.after watching a movie,i be going back and starts day dreaming.i think i've been dreaming all my life.i think i am still dreaming now.
hi Ann, i loves watching Bruce Lee too. quite often, there were some Bruce Lee wannabes at the ticket counters touting their way to buy tickets during the onset of the film show
Hi Ah Ngao
Surprises are just wonderful. I missed you...
cinemas are still coming into my dreams and writing.Cheers.
cheers to you too ..!
Hi Ah Ngao...Sibu today still stunned by the logs in the Rajang....it's like something hitting the politicians and they don't know what hit them....
Sorry to inform u that no cinema in Limbang now. The premises is used by a advertising company. I presumed that the pictures hanging outside the building are sample of banners and signboards.
I know....the cinema is just a shell....I used it to help others to remember the good old times...thanks for pointing it out....cheers.
Not even a small cineplex? Most towns have one...And I still enjoy a good movie or two in Miri...with great sound systems...and one day may be even 3D.
