Kenyah Beadwork at E Mart of Miri

There will be a bead of Sarawak seminar in Miri from 9th to 10th October.

Beads are very much a part of the cultural scene in Sarawak amongst the indigenous people. And especially amongst the Kenyah.

Some of the oldest beads in Sarawak came from China and overseas according to Heidi Munan one of Sarawak's most famous cultural writers who has written a book on Sarawak Beads. Heidi is also the Hon. Curator of Beads of the Sarawak Museum.

There is no Indigenous Museum in Miri yet but if you happen to have an opportunity to visit E Mart in Miri you can walk into an area where there are many stalls selling interesting bead work and many can be considered artistic work .

Yes Ah Ngao the Tibetans have huge beads which are very beauitful and admired....the Tibetan women look more pretty from the back...so people actually give them a second look....such is the law of attraction made to the fullest use....
