St. Paul's Cathedral

It is good to be back in London again. I was living in Awkright Road, Hampstead in 1978 in a small garden flat which cost a bomb for a student!

I did most of my sightseeing on foot on days I was not temping. As a student wife I could work a little and earn a little. It was nice working part time. But it was agonizing waiting at the temping office for jobs to come by.

So on the days I could not work, I walked and walked and walked.

Now that time has passed us by, I am back in London as a tourist.

There are now more tour buses which are so colourful and inviting. Sitting on top of this kind of bus really gives one a HEAD START. BEing only a 5 footer I cannot really see much if there is a big crowd.

St Paul's is always a good place to go. And I love sitting on the steps.

Sitting on steps can become quite a good hobby.

This is a late 17th century Anglican Cathedraw designed in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren. It was part of a major rebuilding programme in the city after the Great Fire of London.

5 interesting FACTS :
a) The organ has 7256 pipes with 5 manuals,189 rnaks of pipes and 137 stops.
b) The Cathedral has a full professional choice which sings regularly at services.
c) The 1964 movie, Mary Poppins, use the steps of St Paul's as the scene for the song, "Feed the Birds".
d) It has three domes.
e) To reach the top of the Cathedral dome, you have to climb 528 steps (365 feet)
f) John Donne (famous poet) was Dean of St. Paul's (1621- 3) who "No man is an island", "For whom the bell tolls"...He wrote famous sermons as well as some of the great English poems. He was buried in St. Paul's .

It is nice to be able to look up and wonder what people are doing, what they are thinking about. Of course it would be terrible to see a woman jumping off from the top. It might just happen as these days mental health is quite an issue.

These are my special photos from an October 2010 morning at St. Paul's. What a morning!!
