Tropical Hats made from Biru Leaves

Local hats made from leaves of the Biru palm are very suitable as sun shades.

They keep the rain out and keep the wearer cool. And furthermore it is environmentally friendly. This kind of hat lasts more than 5 years.

These ladies are selling jungle produce in the Sarikei open air market.

Biru is a species of the Licuala. google Licuala and you will get images of it. Most Licuala are found in jungle but some are cultivated. licuala obicularis from Matang area near Kuching is an elegant species. Licuala sinensis introduced from China is the most widely cultivated species. There is a species from the peat swamp, Licuala paludosa.
