Chinese New Year Movies

Chinese New Year was very special to us in Sibu.

Besides getting a good dinner, we looked forward to probably a new set of clothes and a new pair of shoes. Those with big families might not enjoy so many new clothes or even pajamas. It was a custom to have new pajamas for the new year.

The town would be bursting with activities and shops would be selling extra stuff, be it food, clothes, or toys.

The cinemas, Lido, Rex, Cathay, and Palace, would put up lots of posters of the Chinese New Year movies.

And that was what I liked in particular. I might be able to see at least 4 good movies, one in each of the cinemas. These movies would the latest. After watching the movies we would critique what we saw for days after the New Year in our school.

I had then a school mate who watched a movie every night with her China born mother. Most mothers said watching movie was bad for our studies. But this girl was always top. We secretly thought that watching movies helped a person do better in their studies.

Until now I still love watching movies, not just during Chinese New Year. I definitely would like to watch a movie every night.
