Kelong of yesteryears

Kelongs are wooden stakes/structures built over the sea originally used to trap fish.

They have a platform and fishermen can rest in makeshift huts built over them.

Today kelongs are used as platforms by fishermen.

There are not many "real" kelongs left. The ones in Mukah area have long collapsed and lost in the sands of time. It is hard even to find old photographs of Sarawakian kelongs.
