Special Banana Leaves for Pulut Panggang, Sibu

This is the special banana grown in Kerto, Sibu. They are short and thin and are grown very close together. The banana growers plant them to supply leaves for pulut panggang makers.

the leaves do not break easily and the plants grow very fast. These bananas do not fruit.

They have been growing these banana trees since the 1930's. They were the original Orang Sibu who populted this part of Sibu.

The banana leaves are harvested and brought to Sibu by the growers' own longboats in the past. Today they have their own cars which have made trading very convenient.

These banana leaves can be bought in the Sibu Central Market. Just ask for pulut panggang banana leaves.
