Her family, originally from Hainan Island managed to send her to school in . But by choice, she returned to China in 1953 to continue her education. She stopped at her parents' home in Hainan Island.
"Although a native of Hainan Island I actually stayed on the island for less than 60 days in total !! " she told us. And she has never stepped foot on Hainan Island again.
She can be considered a "refugee from Nanyang" but in modern terms she is an "overseas returnee".
Today she is a renown Migration Historian of Xiamen University
When she was ready to choose her university, she chose Xiamen University which was very appealing to overseas Chinese and furthermore the university education was free!!

The Xiamen University Campus is one of the most beautiful in the whole of China.

Its gardens are always well kept and the flowers are well displayed.

the scenic lakes in the University encourage the students to reflect, think well and study hard.
