A Descendant of Ling Ming Lock

In 1922, Binatang was opened up to Foochow farmers under the supervision of three men, Tiong Kung Ping, Ling Ming Lok and Yao Shiao King. Tiong Kung Ping was made the first Kapitan of the area and succeeded by Ling Ming Lok. While Rev Yao Shiao King was instrumental in establishing churches and schools in the area.

Tiong Kung Ping donated 2 acres of land to establish the Kai Chung Primary School (and later the secondary school) Rev Yao was the first Headmaster.

That was how Binatang became a town, developed by the Foochows.

Today Paul Ling, a grandson of Ling Ming Lock has many stories to tell. He lives in Miri with his wife, Lucy, and children. He is now a happy grandfather of several grandchildren.

Paul Ling has in his possession the original transaction (in red paper) of an agreement which was a testimony to the transfer of a boy to another family.

It was not really a sale and purchase agreement but it was more or less the same thing.
