Many houses in Sibu used to have chimneys especially the wooden houses. I remember our house in Brooke Drive had a nice little chimney. The house was designed and built by my paternal grandfather.
Some houses did not have a European style of chimneys which stand up from the roof. The chute is made on the wall and smoke comes out of the chute from the wood fire stove. This was more common than the western style chimney.
Many wooden government houses did not exactly have a chimney but they have a smoke outlet on the roof.
