Making of belacan

the making of belacan is a long tedious process. It requires the catching of bubuk in the sea, drying the shrimps in the sun and pounding several times to finally have the shrimp paste. This process takes days but the end product is a fragrant and tasty paste so necessary in local cuisine. Many people cannot do without belacan. Image may contain: food
And the wooden lesong is the most important article in the process of making belacan.

Making of pounded ubi leaves

Another important food which graces the table of many indigenous families in Sarawak is the pounded ubi leaves.

Ubi or tapioca leaves are very popular. To prepare them well, one has to pound them in a wooden mortar with a wooden pestle. This fine preparation of the ubi leaves makes the dish very easily chewed and digested.

Ubi leaves help with digestion and they really help one to detox. Any one suffering from constipation only needs to eat some ubi leaves in the evening.
