Nang Chong Stories : Planting Gi Kiang
In the 1960's my two uncles were busy planting the green tangerines, called Gi Kiang.
They had a few helpers to make mounds for the saplings. In fact it was at the encouragement of the Agriculture Department and officers went around promoting citrus fruits and pomelo growing. Sg. Sadit was famous for pomelo growing and the green oranges were grown on both banks of the Rajang. However the most important area to come under the green oranges was Bintangor (Binatang)
And in fact, those oranges came to be known as Mintang Gi Giang. The production was so good that most people enjoyed buying and eating them.
My two uncles put some land under the mintang gi giang but after many floods, the trees died and they gave up. They never became rich from the sale of the gi giang.
