Nang Chong Stories : Curfew

The 24 hour curfew was slammed on the people of the Rajang Basin in 1972 for several weeks because some police personnel were killed by the Underground Communists known as the North Kalimantan Army.

Fast boats like these plied the river and its tributaries telling people about the hours of curfew.

Whether the curfew was 6 to 6 at night or 24 hours, the patrol boat would make the announcement.

The weeks of 24 hour curfew put many people out of job and out of pocket. Some families did not have much to eat while those who had their own vegetable garden ate well. The 24 hour curfew was sudden and unexpected.
