Sibu Tales : Aunty from By Gone Days

It was nice to meet up with a friend after church. She is an aunty from long time ago. When I lived in Sibu she wore only a simple blouse and a pair of dark pants to go to work. And she would always carry a tiffin carrier to the flat upstairs. That would be the breakfast she prepared from home for the old bachelor she worked for.

She was retained as his housekeeper for many years and even way past his retirement.

We had not seen each other for a long time ever since I moved to Miri.

She was always a sweet aunty who took care of the guy who lived upstairs.

After she did the housekeeping and cooked a meal in the flat, she would lock up and come downstairs to my mother's flat and have a good chat. By then it would be way past noon. She would then open her umbrella and then walk all the way back to where she and her children lived in Huo Ping Road.

For some reason my mother's tenant moved out, may be it was because he used his gratuity to buy a flat for himself. And we did not see him again. Aunty was seldom seen but she was busy working for others. My mother would meet her once in a while in the market.

I like her because she has gentle ways and a lot of kindness in her voice.
