Image may contain: plant, tree, flower, outdoor and nature

These are the seeds of wild pepper found in Bario .

Wild pepper is known as Chow Yi Ra (Smelly Wood Root). The roots are pulled up, washed clean and chopped up by Chinese sinseh for sale.

The Foochow community considers the root as energy giving and often boil it with pork leg.

Labourers who work hard consume the roots and pork leg and feel nourished. It can be served with a bowl of soh mien / longevity noodles or a plate of rice.
