The ensurai is the fruit of the Dipterocarpus globosus tree, a critically endangered species found on the island of Borneo
It is the favoured food of the semah and empurau fish which are rare species of fish in Sarawak.
The ensurai tree is found on river banks and during the fruit season the winged fruits will drop on the forest floor making a red carpet. The fruits which fall on the river will be food for the fish.
Rivers will be teeming with fish during the fruiting season of the ensurai.
thus in the past, the Ibans would welcome the fruiting season of the ensurai and be ready for fishing with their jala. It would be like a festive season .
