Flashback to the Sixties..... The Aims and Purposes of the School

by Rev KV Wiltshire

The school seeks to provide education in  a Christian context. By education we mean NOT the training of pupils to pass examinations. But the providing of opportunities so that the talents latent in each individual may be brought out. This is well summed up in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance, and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups."
By "a Christian context" we mean that the school seeks to take as its standard the teaching of Jesus, and to inform its pupils,by both precept and example, of the content and implications of that teaching. This is done because we believe that true education, as defined above, canbest be achieved in this way.l
However, this is emphatically not a school for Christians only. A Christian school, like the Christian gospel, must be available for all, and we rejoice in the comradeship with Muslims, Buddhists and other non=-Christians who have their own special and welcome contributions to make.
All this does not mean that academic standards are of no importance. Efficient teaching, and, the hard discipline of study (which result in examination successes) are important - but they are not as important to a person as the discovery\
that
ONE SHOULD NEVER BE AFRAID OF TRUTH, AND NEVER BE AFRAID TO LOVE.

The Bishop Watts Memorial Building named after a former Nebraska Bishop contains 3 well equipped labs and a Domestic Science room. The capital for this building was raised partly in Nebraska, partly by government grant and partly by local funds.
The Colonial Development fund supplied much of the equipment.
