Nang Chong Stories : Stop Smoking!!

No automatic alt text available.

My mother's cousin, a school teacher in Nang Chong was quite fond of smoking, however within controlled amounts. He would never smoke in front of his wife.

Everyone knew about his smoking habits but as most people were quite tolerant about each others habits, his smoking did not really bother a lot of people. But it did bother his wife a lot. His wife wanted to save every single cent he earned for the sake of the family. And they had to make sure that they could have a little set aside for the rainy day.

She had a special way of getting her husband to smoke less. She sent out her three children to follow their father to the village and should he buy a stick of cigarette to smoke, the children would run home to make a report.

One day such a report was made, and she went to the shop to cause a big fuss. The poor man lost a lot of ace and stopped smoking from that day onwards.

He was a happy and upright man and was always grateful to his wife who put him on the right path. May his soul rest in peace.

His children are all very upright and very respectable people.
