Tall girls in the Methodist school were selected to play basketball in the 1950's And interestingly, Diana Mamora also played very good basketball. She was in my aunts' class. She later trained in Batu Lintang, and became my Primary Six teacher.
She is a very good musician and a good English teacher. We all missed her when she decided to go overseas to pursue her music career.
We were very lucky to study in the Methodist Primary School because we had many teachers from different nationalities teaching us. Miss Annette Constantine was the supervisor at that time and she guided the school teachers very gently and firmly. Miss Mamora's parents were missionaries from Indonesia working in Sarawak until they retired.
Perhaps their presence was one of the contributing factors that we were so good in English.
Later my aunt, Greta, second from right, standing, came back from the USA and taught in the Methodist Secondary school. I was in Form Two and she inspired me to do well in Maths.
