Sibu Tales : Youths at work

Image may contain: 6 people, bicycle and outdoor

In Sibu it was common for every one to carry a paper umbrella. People walking carried umbrellas, people riding bicycles also carried umbrellas.

The oiled paper umbrellas were imported from Fujian where it was a traditional craft.

In the hot climate of Sarawak, the umbrella has been a very important item. A rain may suddenly come so it is  also a good protection.

This photo is from the album of Ling Leh Tiong.

From the left is the late Rev. Alopen Liu, Pro Steve, Hii Yien Ann (4th), Methodist Youths cycling to Lau King Howe Hospital, to distribute Christian leaflets. on a Saturday evening, around 6pm
