Above is the older flower, which turned brown.

This is the younger flower, with three florets..still red and pretty. After a while, it will become brown in colour.
The florets are three petaled, pale yellowish in colour.
These wild ginger, grown in my backyard, make good and long lasting floral arrangements.
I was told that the fluid in the inflorescences can be used as shampoo which can also be left in the hair as a conditioner and then rinsed out. The fluid can also be used to massage the skin. The roots may have medicinal uses. When dried and pounded, the root powder is fragrant. The leaves are usually used to wrap meats for baking or cooking over open fires.
