Zinc roofing is disappearing very fast in Miri in particular and in Sarawak in general. In the olden days, zinc was a cheap material which most people could afford. It was also easily obtainable since it was light and very easy to transport especially by boat.
But zinc roofing can become rusty and ugly. Inferior quality zinc roofing therefore is being slowly phased out by other better quality roofing materials.
Zinc sheets used to be quite a good gift delivered by politicians at one time together with zinc water tanks in the 1960's and 1970's in Sarawak.
