The Methodist Church has two important buildings at Jalan Archer : The new Methodist Girls' Hostel and the Ladies' Apartments.

I spent quite a bit of my life at the Ladies' Apartments visiting my teachers and friends , and some of my school friends at the Girls' Hostel when I was younger. The old school girls' hostel run by Mrs. Lu was demolished in the late 60's.

Jalan ARcher is named after John Beville ARcher.

Here is the history:

Jalan Archer, Sibu – John Beville Archer, C.M.G (Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George), M.S.S (Master of the Most Excellent Order of the Star of Sarawak), was only 19 when he joined the government service.
He was made chief secretary in 1939 and retired in 1941 during the Japanese occupation. He was interned at the Batu Lintang Camp to look after the other prisoners during the occupation.
