Sibu : Mother and Child Health Clinic
Wu Lek Hui was the name given to the Mother and Child Health Clinic in Sibu from the beginning of Sibu Foochow Settlement. This was because the first clinic established by the Methodist Mission was in the Epsworth League building.
After the Second World War, the Sibu Urban District took over public health services with a great determination and the clinic for the mother and child health care was placed in the "Tudor Building", which actually served many different departments over the years, like Police especially.
In this clinic mothers and children were given child health treatment. Mothers were given pre and post natal treatment.
I remember the nurses wore uniforms of differetn colours e.g. blue, and grey uniforms and the student midwives wore white uniforms. (Photo from Borneo Post)
And all the babies had to be weighed and their weights recorded on their record cards which were pink in colour.
