John Ting Sik Kang has one of the best home libraries in Sarawak. He loves books and has been a collector of books for years! And he reads every book he can lay his hands on.
I remember one time he got very excited when someone told him that my old school, Methodist Secondary School library was throwing out some old books. He called up a friend and rushed with him to the school, at last to find lots of good history books written in English in the dust bin!!
He took most of them home and put them in his beloved home library. He had given the books a new posh home.
One of the books he took home is "A History of China" by Fairbanks, a book we used as a reference book during my 6th Form in 1968.
It is a pity that history of China (East Asia) is not taught in Malaysian 6th Form now.
Although he is retired from many associations , he is still involved with many seminars and workshops on literature, culture and other topics he is interested in.
He is truly a man of LETTERS and BOOKS.

Dear my once upon teacher
I am very happy to read your articles and this one attracts me more. WE all love books but at times where to put in the very end. End with dusts there. Unless the library is open. I once had those calculus books way bk to 1968 time ...just had to part off to someone in Salvation Army home!
I remember rescuing some of those books too. Sometimes I look back and I wonder if I had imagined the books being thrown out. Have always wondered what happened to the rest.
