In May 1968 there were eight Methodist primary schools in the Upper Rejang District of the Methodist Church which was centered at Kapit.
Besides SK Methodist, the other Mission schools in the division are
SK Sungai
Amang,
SK Sungai Menuan,
SK Lubok Mawang,
SK Nanga Tiau,
SK Nanga Entuloh,
SK Nanga Mujong.
Every year there was an Annual Methodist Conference for the church and pastors to attend to discuss very pertinent issues.
The Methodist Church in 1968 recorded that there were . 705 students attending the eight schools of whom 445 were boys. The largest primary school at Kapit had 280 students, of whom 85 were Iban and the remainder Chinese, Malay and other indigenous peoples. Only a limited number of Iban children attended the seven other schools in wholly Iban rural areas. The largest of these schools, and the only one to have over 100 pupils, was Nanga Mujong. More needed to be done to encourage Iban to educate their children, for example individual houses could have joined together to provide an engine for a boat to transport their children to school.

An attempt was made at all the schools to teach husbandry and cultivate a school garden, which provided some of the food needed by the pupils and the staff. At Nanga Mujong the older primary schoolboys were employed in practical work in the agricultural center on Saturdays. This gave them some knowledge of modern farming methods before the majority of them left school at the primary six level and returned to their longhouse homes.
The Methodist Secondary School at Kapit was a private, non-government, school and in June 1968, out of a total of 302 students, 83 were Iban
