There were not attached bathrooms in the Boarding School in those days.
How did the girls manage at night?
There were two chamber pots for those who needed to ease themselves.
All the boarders lived upstairs and it was not possible for them to go downstairs at night to ease themselves in the out houses. It was also too dark for them to go downstairs.
The older girls who were the cooks during the day had to empty the chamber pots which would be so full the next morning. And the duty roster was strictly followed with Mrs. Hoover checking on every one.
According to my Aunt Chiew, it was really difficult to bring the chamber pots downstairs to empty. the older girls really learned to balance well.
