Milk Powder and Baby Contests in Sibu

The 1950's saw Sibu growing into quite a modern affluent town, although quite slowly at first. And then suddenly many people struck it rich with new found wealth in the exporting of timber.

Sawmills started to grow along the Rajang River and many timber tycoons gained great wealth in Indonesia.

The town started to have big cars and men started to have parties in Island Club and Sibu Recreation Club. Then Night clubs started to flourish.

At the same time with more cash floating around the town babies were born to be fed on milk formula as new mothers were concerned about fashionable bodies and new fashion. It was sort of unfashionable to breast feed!!

Milk Powder Promotion became a normal part of life, and baby contests were held to promote baby formula. Apparently many babies from then onwards were plumb and cute!!
