1924 to 1960's , many Ibans from Bawang Assan stopped by this old shop along the Rajang at Ensurai or Wong Su Lai..behind the shop Hock Kwong was the biggest mansion along the Rajang, owned by the Lau Kah Tii family.
The mansion had a grand opening in 1924 . And it did take the carpenters, including my own maternal grandfather, to build. My mother cannot remember when they started building as she was ot born yet.
The house finally collapsed in 1968 and the shop washed away by riverine erosion long before then. I personally have great fondness for this part of the history of the Rajang

Photo by my father of Grand Uncle Lau Kah Tii in front of his house with Ling Kai Cheng, Lau Hieng Yiin, Uncle Lau Pang Kwong and another friend.

The biggest mansion of the Rajang Valley",was 3 storeyed high. Ground floor and first floor had 6 rooms each. The loft was different. It was demolished in the 1990's.He was also the 2nd Headman of the Foochows, and the Kii Tiurng of Penghulu of 8 Kii, or 8th Distrcit (An old delineation of Foochow areas of Sibu).
You can see the replica at the Methodist Church Archives, History and Research Deparment Gallery in Kwang Hua.Photo by Wong Meng Lei
