Foochow Belian Bench
Most of my relatives, including my Ngie Mah , had a belian bench in their houses down river. It was very much a part of their interior decor in those days . Apart from a square table for dining in the kitchen, with 4 benches or more, or small wooden stools, there was this long belian bench for the living room. Probably it was the one the spartan Foochows liked to own.
There were four rectangular holes like those in the photo and the legs would be very sturdily made. Each bench would hold up many people and especially many small children. No nails were used to make the bench.
